In The Next Chapter, the action of the story is intensifying, becoming more complicated, leading to the final denouement. In this case it is also a metaphor for my life. At seventy-six, I am creating this late-in-life chapter that resurrects a long-put-aside passion for writing. There is no manual for it, and it takes courage, patience, and chutzpah to pull it off while negotiating with time and nature. Wish me luck!

ICE ON THE LAKE
Saturday morning, December 18, and there's ice on the lake.
The pansies finally gave up the ghost, after hanging in through earlier freezes. The thermometer in the back registers 30 degrees, although in a different spot it showed just 22.
